Take advantage of the last few weeks of summer and get your paddle on during the Aloha Summer Paddle event Wednesday, August 10 at 6:30 p.m. The event, hosted by Mountain Gear, invites you to take up your canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddle boards, and get moving along the Spokane River.

The event will start and finish at the McKinstry Building (850 E Spokane Falls Blvd), right across from the GU baseball field. This location marks a chance for people to get out on a section of the Spokane River that doesn’t normally see a lot of paddlers, but should, because it is very accessible (right in town).

P1000190“I can’t think of a better way to spend a Wednesday night than paddling on the Spokane River with friends and family,” says Phil Bridgers, coordinator of the event. “It’s a great opportunity to meet other paddlers.”

Starting at 6:30, participants will paddle up the river for about a half an hour, then paddle back down the river to the Division street bridge, and eventually back to the McKinstry Building.
The paddling may end back at the start, but the fun doesn’t have to. A Hawaiian themed BBQ begins at 7:30 p.m. right at the McKinstry upon your return.

Don’t have your own gear? No problem. You can rent canoes, kayaks, or SUP boards from Mountain Gear on 2002 N Division Street for the event.
