Access Passes—Open the Door to Public Lands

Do you have a fishing license? How about a hunting license? Then you have access to over 1 million acres of public lands and approximately 475 water access areas across Washington state. The Vehicle Access Pass that you get free when you purchase select licenses grants access to all Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) lands.

Don’t worry if you don’t have one—a Discover Pass does the same thing and more. The Discover Pass lets you park at not just WDFW lands but also State Parks and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) lands. This can open the door to heritage sites, wildlife and natural areas, trails and trailheads.

In addition to acquiring land for wildlife and their habitat, WDFW purchases lands to preserve Washington’s natural and cultural heritage, provide access for hunting, fishing and wildlife-related recreation, and foster outdoor experiences and exploration throughout the state. We do this to support the species and habitats of Washington and ensure they prosper for our collective enjoyment well into the future.

You can purchase your fishing or hunting license or Discover Pass at Wdfw.wa.gov/license. Discover Passes are available as a one-day or annual pass. Or, if you want to try before you buy, Discover Passes are also available to check out for a week at a time at local libraries through Washington State Parks’ Check Out Washington program. A single Discover Pass is transferable between two vehicles. However you choose to utilize Vehicle Access or Discover Passes, we welcome you to explore your public fish and wildlife lands and waters.
