Forget the roller coasters. This is the ride you’ll actually remember. The 15-mile Route of the Hiawatha near Lookout Pass is a bucket-list bike trail that winds through tunnels and across trestle bridges deep in Idaho’s Bitterroot Mountains. Interpretive signs along the way tell the story of the trail and surrounding communities, while the views of the mountain landscape speak for themselves.

The route’s gentle grade and available shuttle option make it a great fit for families and mixed-ability groups. Trail passes are required and can be purchased online (with or without shuttle) or on site at Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area, where bike rentals and gear are also available. Don’t forget a headlamp—you’ll need it for the tunnels!
