Since 2015, REI stores have closed their doors on Black Friday to encourage more people to spend the day outside with friends and family enjoying nature. This year REI is going further by promoting November 29 as a nationwide day of action for the planet that’s just the beginning of a whole year of change-making actions. Join REI in making the fight for life outdoors part of your life with The Opt to Act Plan, a 52-week schedule of simple actions you and your family can do to reduce your impact, get active, and leave the world a better place. Get the full details on each weekly action at REI.com/blog/stewardship/the-opt-to-act-plan.
Leading up to and on Black Friday, stores nationwide including Spokane are hosting events with different organizations to clean parks, beaches, and riverbanks. Join one of Spokane’s Black Friday events and spread the #Optoutside word: On Nov. 29 help the Inland NW Lands Conservancy with trail planning and building the Palisades Park to Riverside State Park connection from 8:30 a.m.-noon; join the Dishman Hills Conservancy from 1-4 p.m. for a hike and trail cleanup in the Dishman Hills from the Stevens Creek Trailhead; or from 10 a.m.-noon, explore and help clean up the Haynes Estate Conservation Area with Wander Spokane (bring your own trash bags and gloves).
