The nonprofit organization Nimíipuu Protecting the Environment will host the annual Free the Snake Flotilla at Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston, Idaho, on Sept. 11-12. The Flotilla, also known as the Rally-on-the-River, brings together tribal leaders, policymakers, community members and salmon advocates to call attention to the crisis salmon and steelhead are facing and rally for a restored lower Snake River.
Inspired by the success of last year’s Flotilla and feedback from hundreds of participants, this year’s event will provide another engaging two days for the public to connect with the river and each other. Friday night includes an outdoor film screening and live music, and Saturday will feature the Flotilla, salmon lunch, booths from partner organizations and a powerful program of speakers. Participating organizations including Save Our Wild Salmon Coalition will also distribute NW Artists Against Extinction Get Out the Vote materials to inspire unity and action on behalf of our region’s lands, waters, salmon and futures.
