For more than 50 years, the University of Idaho Outdoor Program’s Annual Outdoor Equipment Sale & Swap has helped kick off the winter recreation season on the Palouse. The event has become a community tradition, bringing together students, families, outdoor retailers, and recreation enthusiasts to buy and sell quality used outdoor gear while connecting with others who enjoy getting outside.

The 50th Annual Outdoor Sale & Swap, held on November 6, 2025, was one of the largest in the event’s history. Regional partners including Lookout Pass, Hyperspud Sports, and White Pine Outfitters joined dozens of private sellers to offer everything from skis and snowboards to camping, climbing, cycling, and paddling equipment. Whether someone was purchasing their first set of skis or looking to pass along gear they no longer use, the event helped make outdoor recreation more affordable and accessible throughout the region.

Continued strong turnout reflects the interest in outdoor recreation across the Palouse and the value of providing opportunities for people to connect with both the outdoor community and affordable equipment.

The tradition continues this fall with the 51st Annual Outdoor Sale & Swap on Thursday, November 5, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the University of Idaho Student Recreation Center. Sellers can begin setting up at 5:00 p.m. for a $10 seller fee. Early shoppers may enter from 6:00–6:30 p.m. for $5, 6:30–7:00 p.m. for $1, and admission is free from 7:00–8:00 p.m. University of Idaho students and children under 12 receive free admission throughout the event. As always, all proceeds from door fees will support the Vandal Ski Team.

Whether you’re looking for your next piece of gear or hoping to give equipment a second life, we hope you’ll join us as we continue one of the Palouse’s longest-running outdoor traditions.
