SpokeFest Legacy Lives On

After 13 years, SpokeFest, an annual community biking event focused on individuals and families riding bikes, dissolved the organization this past January. To continue the legacy, the SpokeFest board turned all remaining funds over to the Spokane Parks Foundation to continue supporting Summer Parkways, a former SpokeFest event and Spokane’s largest block party where community members bike, walk, run, skate, and dance in Spokane’s parks and surrounding streets.

The Spokane Parks Foundation has served the Spokane community for more than 71 years, investing over $5 million in parks throughout Spokane County, making the organization a no brainer to carry on the Summer Parkways event. ā€œWe support park projects and outdoor recreation programs that demonstrate active and committed community involvement and increase accessibility for all. The Summer Parkways event is a great fit for our mission, and we are excited to take the reins from SpokeFest to ensure that Summer Parkways will continue into the future,ā€ says Spokane Parks Foundation board President Kevin Hennessey.

Summer Parkways is a free event that will take place this year on June 21 from 6-9 p.m. in the Manito/Comstock neighborhood on Spokaneā€™s South Hill. Additional details can be found at www.summerparkways.com.
