Just off I-90 between Spokane and Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Idaho, offers some pretty impressive trails, crags and paddling opportunities for after-work or weekend summer outings. Start at Q’emiln Park (pronounced “Ka-Mee-Lin”) on the Spokane River, where over 100 rock climbing routes wind through shaded granite cliffs. Nestled among tall trees near the river, the cliffs often stay cool and shady throughout the summer—and it’s widely considered the best beginner-friendly crag area in the Inland Northwest. Beyond climbing, the park offers designated swimming areas with seasonal lifeguards, a boat launch, picnic pavilions with BBQ grills, and a playground—making it a perfect destination for families looking for a quick nature escape.

Adjacent to the park, the Post Falls Community Forest has miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Also just a short ride or walk away is the North Idaho Centennial Trail, a scenic multi-use path that stretches along the Idaho-Washington border and the Spokane River, linking a series of parks and historical markers along the way. This section of the Spokane River above the Post Falls Dam is ideal for paddling and swimming at Q’emiln Park. After your adventuring, wind down at Falls Brewing Company, Up North Distillery or one of the eateries just across the river in Post Falls. Plan your outing around a visit to the Post Falls Public Market open Wednesdays through Sundays with fresh produce and local crafts.
