Big White’s Secret Summer Life: Bikes, Trails and Happy Detours

Some of the best rides don’t come from a guidebook. They come from a tip, a detour or just pointing the truck north and seeing what turns up. If this summer takes you across the border into BC’s interior, put Big White Ski Resort on the list. Most riders passing through have no idea it runs a full bike park from July through September. That’s exactly why it’s worth the stop.

From Oroville, Wash., it’s a straightforward 111-mile cruise through the Okanagan and up Highway 33 straight into the mountain village. Kelowna sits 55 minutes away if you need to restock before heading up. Parking is easy in Happy Valley or the Village Centre. Get there, get on the lift and let the trails do the rest.

The Bike Park

Big White Bike Park runs July 1 to Sept. 7, 2026, Thursdays through Sundays plus Canadian holiday Mondays. Ride the Bullet Chairlift to 7,490 feet and step into 38 trails, 28 miles and full subalpine exposure. The views up here are distracting in the best possible way.

The terrain covers the full spectrum, from wide forgiving lines through open forest to rooted blue-tech corners, machine-built berms and flow trails that stack momentum all the way to the bottom. Stacked Deck’s wallride is the feature everyone talks about, and for good reason. Push further and you’re into chunky rock slabs, steep rollouts and jump lines built for riders who came to send it clean.

No bike on the rack? The Rental Shop has dual-suspension rigs and full armor ready to go. Download Trailforks, tap into the free village Wi-Fi and start building your lap list before you even hit the lift.

Adult day passes start at $59 CAD. Friday Night Extended Play runs from 3:30 to 7 p.m. for a solid end-of-day session, and the 3-Day Dirt Pass gives you flexible access across any three days of the season.

Build Your Trip Around These

  • Fiv’r Fridays (July 3 to Sept. 4): $5 weekly downhill races open to all levels every Friday evening.

  • Warm Up for Winter Weekend (Sept. 5-6): Carnival fun, retail deals and a good excuse to stretch the trip one more day.

Beyond the Bike Park

When the legs need a rest, the mountain has a way of slowing everything down in the best possible way. Chairlift access drops you into the alpine with views across the Monashee and Selkirk Mountains and wildflower fields running strong from early July through mid-August, with dog-friendly trails throughout. The free 9-hole disc golf course is a solid wind-down after a big day on the bike.

Eat, Drink, Sleep

The Woods patio is the post-ride move: burgers, pork ribs, rosemary beef dip and cold drinks in the open air. The BullWheel runs daily drink specials. Toasty café handles grab-and-go mornings. Cabin Kitchen + Bar covers breakfast and lunch. The Market stocks groceries, liquor and supplies in the Village.

The Inn at Big White starts at $149 per night on a two-night stay with pool access and a walkable village location (pet-friendly rooms available). Rolling in with an RV? The Black Forest camping area connects easily to the village. Chalets with private hot tubs sleep up to 26 for crews doing it right. Big White Central Reservations posts hot deals regularly at Bigwhite.com.

Worth every mile of the detour, Big White serves up a small-town feel, serious trails and a few surprises you didn’t see coming. Bike Big White on YouTube gives you a taste. The trails do the rest.
