A few winters ago, our editor Derrick Knowles wrote about his first trip to Canada’s Big White Ski Resort. Now the U.S. Dollar is 20 cents stronger than Canadian currency. It’s a great time to experience Big White, as the exchange rate makes for instant deals on rooms and lift tickets.
Big White is in the Okanagan, B.C., region, which is also packed with wineries and restaurants to suit your après ski needs. The resort itself boasts 19 on-mountain spots for food and drink.
Big White has a reputation as a family-friendly resort, which, according to Knowles, simply means you won’t have to endure “f-bomb saturated teenage rants, or suck up second hand smoke in the lift lines.” The positive vibe carries over to employees, too. “There’s an authentic sense of community, especially with the people who work there. [It] felt a lot like a big family,” wrote Knowles.
There’s a Happy Valley with terrain for beginners, and a top-rated kid’s ski school. Outside of wicked alpine runs, Big White offers a tubing hill, ice skating rink, snowshoeing trails, sleigh rides, snowmobile tours, and a 60-foot ice climbing wall.
If you head to Big White this December, check out the resort event calendar for Christmas Celebration events like snowboarding with Santa.
