Spokefest, Mountain Gear, and Strider Donating 120 Bikes at June 4 Giveaway Party (applications due by May 27)

SpokeFest Association and Mountain Gear are joining forces with Strider Bikes, the world’s leading manufacturer and marketer of children’s no-pedal balance bikes, to give away 120 Strider Bikes to Spokane County youth ages 18 months to 5 years old. Mountain Gear will host a Giveaway Party on Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at their Spokane retail location at 2002 N Division. The Giveaway Party is free, open to the public and refreshments will be provided. Kids can test ride a Strider Bike at the Adventure Zone, where helmets will be available.

Of the 120 Strider Bikes, 90 will go to the children and families who submit applications by emailing events@mountaingear.com with ideas of what their children will do with the bikes. The deadline for submissions is May 27, and winners will be notified via email by June 1. Children must be between 18 months to 5 years old, live in Spokane County and be available to pick up the bike at the Giveaway Party on June 4.

At the Giveaway Party, 10 bikes will be donated through a random drawing. Another 10 bikes will go to children of employees, and then 10 bikes will be given away at the Spokefest Summer Parkways event on Tuesday, June 21. Mountain Gear and Bike Hub employees assembled all of the bikes.

After the June 4 Giveaway Party, local toddlers can practice their skills to race in the Spokane Strider Cup race on July 9. The Spokane Race is the last of three events in the 2016 Strider Cup, a national Strider Bike racing series for toddlers and children. It is the first time the Strider Cup has been hosted in Spokane. These family-friendly races for the tiniest competitors give small children a chance to put their Strider Balance Bike skills to the test.

The July 9 Strider Cup event will have races for 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds, and Special Needs riders of all ages. Registration fee is $25 online or $35 on-site for the toddler races. Strider has waived the registration fee for riders with special needs. Racers will receive a Strider goodie bag valued at more than $50 with their registration, and all racers will receive either a medal or a trophy. Pre-registration is open now at http://www.striderbikes.com/spokane.

The 2016 Strider Cup races will be held on June 11 in Lincoln, Nebraska, on June 25 in Salt Lake City, Utah and July 9 in Spokane, WA. Participating in any of these events automatically qualifies the rider for the Strider Cup World Championship, July 29-30 at Pier 35 in San Francisco, California. The Strider event page, http://www.striderbikes.com/events has more information on all of the races. //
