If you’re a parent looking for a winter getaway that mixes snow and splash, a trip to Silver Mountain Resort in Kellogg, Idaho, offers plenty of options for both skiers and non-skiers. Silver’s combination of skiing, tubing, and on-site lodging—with access to Silver Rapids, Idaho’s largest indoor water park—makes for an ideal winter trip packed with fun for kids of all ages and grownups alike. Staying at the Morning Star Lodge gives families the flexibility to ski or tube during the day and soak or splash in the morning or evening, without packing up and hauling kids on long car rides. The lodge sits right in Gondola Village, with the water park, restaurants, and other services just a short walk away.

In addition to the variety of ski and snowboard terrain that offers something for everyone, Silver Mountain has a multi-lane tubing hill with runs more than 600 feet long. Kids as young as 2 (and at least 36 inches tall) can ride with their parents, making it a fun winter activity for families with young children. Tubers can link together for a shared ride, and there are smaller tubes that can be tethered to a parent. Each run ends with a magic carpet ride back to the top, keeping the laps going without the hike. Tubing at Silver is now open seven days a week this season, with sessions lasting two hours. Reservations are recommended, since sessions often sell out.

After a day out in the snow, a session at Silver Rapids is the perfect way to warm up. Inside the water park, the air stays at a comfortable 84 degrees and pool temperatures hover in the low 80s. The lazy river offers a mellow float, while the FlowRider surf simulator gives older kids and teens a chance to test their balance. Younger swimmers gravitate toward the play structure splash area, while families can take turns on the water slides or unwind in one of the hot tubs. Admission to the water park is included with a Morning Star Lodge stay booked through the resort and covers both check-in and departure days.
