A pedestrian died after being hit by a pick-up truck Thursday on busy, five-lane 5th Street in Sandpoint. Anthony J. Joerger worked with Sandpoint’s Pedestrian Advisory Committee. His death is the second 5th-Street pedestrian fatality in recent years. Although some measures were taken to make intersections safer after the 2006 fatality just a few blocks away, Joerger’s death has prompted new discussion of improving the thoroughfare’s crosswalks.
