So light, soft, and comfortable, these tough Ascender nylon shorts came off the rack feeling like a doppelganger of a long-loved and broken in pair of hiking shorts that I’m always rifling through the laundry for. The fabric is fast drying, and the semi-elasticized waistband keeps these low-on-the-hip riding shorts where they belong. Spartan when it comes to frivolous features, two hand pockets (deep enough for a big phone) and one rear pocket give you some room to stow the easy-access essentials. And with 12-inch inseams, there is plenty of room for dynamic body movements, whether you’re hiking, running or climbing. These shorts are destined to become a regular feature of my 2019 summer uniform. MSRP: $65. Mountain-equipment.com.Â
