Mile after mile, the Lowa Renegade Boot proved why it’s so popular thanks to the fit, the lacing, and the Gore-Tex protection. Considering all of the features, it’s a rugged all-around boot at a great price. A special Derby lacing system accommodates individual foot sizes. The Nubuck leather is super durable. The padded tongue protects from tight lacing while the gusseting keeps dirt, weeds and water out. I did test these boots on a big Selkirk hike without any break-in, and, although I don’t recommend it, I couldn’t believe how comfortable they were. The Gore-Tex boot liner insured my feet stayed dry; however, it does take a while for the boots to dry out if they’re completely soaked. Overall, the Renegade’s rugged style disguises their lightweight design, the superior ankle support, and the impressive traction. There are a lot hiking boots on the market, but there’s one more reason you should consider the Renegade: they’re available in narrow, regular and wide sizes. MSRP: $240. Lowaboots.com.
