The Spokane Riverkeeper keeps the Spokane River watershed clean and healthy, in part, by removing over 26,000 pounds of trash per year from the banks and bottom of local rivers and creeks. All of that work is in big part thanks to the help of over 1,600 community volunteers. Spokane Riverkeeper offers public, private, and DIY river cleanups, so no matter your schedule, you can get out on the river and volunteer. Cleaning up trash along urban natural areas along the river is a great way to give back to the planet at a local level. Removing plastics that threaten the health of our local waterways makes a significant impact on fish and wildlife and the quality of outdoor experiences for people. Join the Spokane Riverkeeper and friends for their largest river cleanup of the year at High Bridge Park on April 22. Hundreds of volunteers will remove over 5,000 lbs of trash from the Spokane River and Hangman Creek in one day. The 2022 spring cleanup event, in a limited capacity, saw over 180 volunteers remove two tons of trash from local waterways.
