Centennial Trail Repair Completed at Barker

Back in 2017, the Spokane River flooded significantly and caused some major damage to the Centennial Trail near the Barker Road Trailhead. This particular stretch of the trail is close to the water level, and it was only a matter of time before erosion damaged the Centennial Trail. Thankfully, Washington State Parks secured FEMA funding to repair the broken section. Even better, the plans for the repairs included modern drainage elements to ensure the trail wouldn’t need to be repaired in the same spot in the near future. This repair is a testament to the collaboration between the Friends of the Centennial Trail, Washington State Parks, Spokane Valley, and FEMA. The Centennial Trail is a beloved treasure yet it continually requires the efforts of a lot of agencies to keep it smooth and safe for the community. //
