Whether you’re a parent, a teacher, a camp counselor or just someone who has an appreciation for the outdoors and spends time outside with kids, the Leave No Trace PEAK program can help! PEAK stands for Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids and it is a program that was developed by the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and REI in an effort to help children establish their own code of ethics for the outdoors.
Your local Spokane REI has a PEAK pack, a collection of hands-on, interactive activities that will open kids’ eyes to the natural world around them and help them build a deeper understanding of what it means to live as part of a complete community. These activities are all ready to go with materials and facilitation instructions. The materials are available to check out and they are free to use. All we ask is that you attend one of our training sessions that will introduce you to the principles of Leave No Trace, walk you through several of the available activities and allow you time to ask questions about our PEAK program.
Our next training session will take place on Thursday, September 30 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the REI Community Room. Class participation is free but we ask that you register in advance so we know how to plan. Here is the link to sign up.
Please help to promote environmental awareness and outdoor ethics in our community by attending this class and spreading the word to your fellow educators. Thank you for all you do in our community and for our kids!
