Announcing Mountain Video Contest

Want to win? Just received this notice from Ski the Northwest Rockies:

With several weeks of skiing and snowboarding left in the 2010 season, area ski resorts are encouraging locals and visitors to “get out and get up” to the mountain this spring. Ski the NW Rockies is launching a “Get Out! Get Up!” video contest, encouraging skiers and snowboarders to shoot a short video showing their time at the mountain. Contestants have a chance to win a 2010-2011 season pass to all four mountain resorts (Silver, 49º North, Lookout Pass and Mt. Spokane). This four-mountain pass is not available to the public and is a great opportunity for area residents to get a collective pass.

Visitors participating in the video contest need to simply shoot a short video of their time at the mountain. Contestants can show off their skills, shoot video of their friends and family having fun and more. Contestants need to submit their videos to http://www.skinwrockies.com/video_contest.php by April 4th, 2010. The public can also view user-submitted videos on this site.

“The Get Out! Get Up! promotion is a fun way to engage our skiers and boarders to continue to be active through the spring,” said Brad McQuarrie, President of Ski the NW Rockies. “With flip cams, cell phone cameras, and more, we hope many people can participate and get out and get up this spring.”

The traditional ski season at area mountain resorts is through early April. For spring skiers and boarders, the resorts are offering the following promotions:

• Lookout Pass: The Hawaiian Luau Festival takes place on Sunday, March 21st. Visitors are invited to come dressed in their best Hawaiian apparel. Activities will include a pig roast and the Big Kahuna Downhill ski and snowboard race down Huckleberry Ridge. Also, the Annual Slush Cup, a popular pond skimming competition, takes place Saturday, April 3rd.
• Silver Mountain Resort: March 20th is Retro Day where straight skis and unisuits will be back in style. The Spring Carnival is on April 3rd and 4th and this year’s carnival will feature a splashdown rail jam – a rail will be put right over the slush pond along with the traditional pond skimming contest. Kids ski free! Now through April 4th, children under the age of 17 staying at Mountain Lodge Resort can ski for free.
• 49º North: For those 21 and over, the Bavarian race will take place on Saturday, March 20th. This is a race of advanced skiers and riders and a fun time for all. Live music will be provided by the Working Spliffs.
• Mt. Spokane: Take advantage of those long spring days by skiing or riding at Mt. Spokane until 6pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays the last two weeks of March. Saturday, March 20th is Family Fun Day, which features a Kid Obstacle Course on the Bunny Hill, plus more family fun events. Five dollars will be donated to the Inland Northwest Blood Center for every adult and youth lift ticket purchased that weekend.

“If you haven’t had a chance to get up to one of the four mountain resorts this winter, now is the time,” said McQuarrie. “Conditions are still great at all four resorts and with little snow in town, driving up to the mountains is easy. Spring brings longer days, which translates to more time to enjoy sunny skiing or boarding.”
Ski the NW Rockies includes four of the nation’s best resorts in a 100-mile radius offering all ages the best in skiing, snowboarding, and winter activities.
