campus Gonzaga Environmental Studies students will be installing two Biohaven© floating wetlands in Lake Arthur. As part of Earth Week, all students, teachers and community members are welcome to attend and help plant native plants into the wetlands as well as learn more about the history of Lake Arthur.
Lake Arthur is an integral part of Gonzaga University’s campus that has the potential to become more than just a scenic landmark. This ecosystem can provide more habitat for native species as well as become a living laboratory for students. The addition of floating wetlands will reduce nutrient concentrations in the lake ecosystem as well as offer habitat for native wetland species. Environmental Studies professor, Dr. Greg Gordon remarked on the lake, “Lake Arthur has the potential to be a vibrant and thriving ecosystem in the heart of the city.”
