Friends of Mount Spokane Park

This is a call for volunteers with (and without) building experience.

The Friends of Mt. Spokane State Park, with a grant from the Johnston-Fix Foundation, is planning to construct a 16′ X 24′ warming hut this summer for snowshoers and backcountry skiers and we need volunteers who can help. While no experience is necessary, we are especially in need of an experienced builder to assist with directing the project so that it gets done according to the engineered specifications. We expect to start in late July or early August and want to finish before the end of October. The site will be across from the picnic area and vault toilet at the intersection of the Lower Kit Carson Loop Road and Trail 110. It is a quarter mile from the main road and accessible by vehicle, but there is no power at the site. Brad McQuarrie, General Mgr for the Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park, is putting together the building materials list and will also be available to help guide the work.

Please let me know if you can help, and please spread the word regarding this very exciting project. Thanks!

PS: We will also need a Washington certified wood stove for the hut, so if you have any leads on where we might get a discounted new or used one, let me know.
