Cutting Your Own Christmas Tree: A Timeless Outdoor Tradition

large10-300x199

There is nothing like bringing a little bit of the outdoors inside your home for the holidays in the form of a fresh-cut Christmas tree. There are a lot of tree options, from big box store parking lots, to tree farms and DIY excursions in the National Forest. Holly Lane Tree Farm, located in the foothills of Mt. Spokane, offers the full-meal-deal in Christmas tree experiences. For starters, expect a warm greeting, a complimentary cup of your favorite hot beverage and a bottle of water for the trek out to the field when you get there. They also provide you with a sharp saw to cut your tree and a measuring pole to check the size (all trees are priced the same) and a specially made light-weight tarp (sled) to help keep you dry when cutting your tree and to aid you in moving it. Once you’ve cut your tree and carried it to the nearest road, they transport it up from the field. If you are not up to cutting and moving your tree, they can help you with that too. Once you’re done in the field, you can get warm by the fire, check out their gift shop and awesome wreaths, or grab a hot beverage and watch them shake and bale your tree. Holly Lane sells a variety of trees: blue spruce, Douglas fir, grand fir, Rocky Mountain white fir, blue alpine fir (corkbark fir), green alpine fir (subalpine fir), balsam fir, Meyer spruce and Siberian fir. They also produce greenery, wreaths and swags from their trees for customers. They are open from 9-4 daily. Hollylanetreefarm.com.
