More than 20 types of pickled products, check. Vast varieties of loose teas, check. Cloth sacks of flour and grains, check. House-made breads, check. Lake Life swag, check. Bushels, the little store at the north end of the town of Diamond Lake, north of Spokane, harkens back to the general store of olde, where you can find nearly everything for your trip to the lake or ski hill, or your homesteading cooking projects.
Walking in is almost overwhelming with the variety of products in this store. I personally have an addiction to anything pickled or canned, so I make a sharp left to Bushels’ wall of canned goods. I am slowly working my way through the whole selection; peach salsa, hot garlic dilly beans, pickled mild okra, hot pepper butter, and Bartlett pears. I am also waiting for them to get hot garlic back in stock. The other reason that I frequent Bushels is their “proper” sandwich. This is no overpriced-sandwich-chain sandwich. You circle your choice of meat, cheese, condiments, and veggies, and choose from three types of house-made bread. My last sandwich was on thick cut nut and seed bread, piled high with salami and with the zip of horseradish and banana peppers.
